Minervois

The ‘Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée’ Minervois extends over 5000 hectares with a great variety of different types of ‘terroir’. The regions counts 1100 wine growers of which about 200 exploit their own cellars while the rest depend on the cooperative system.

94% of the production in the Minervois is red, however there are great white wines to be found that are made of quite unknown grapes like Marsanne, Roussanne, Maccabeu, Bourboulenc, Clairette, Grenache or Vermentino.

Red Minervois is a blend of various grapes like Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Carignan, Cinsault or Piquepoul. At Chateau Canet we have fallen in love with the Syrah grape which we complement with a little bit of very ripe Grenache from old vines.

Minervois blanc

Our Minervois Blanc is made using the local grape varieties Bourboulenc and Roussanne and carries hints of tropical and citrus fruits. We choose not to mature the wine in oak barrels in order to do justice to its delicate bouquet.

Minervois RosÉ

A blend of Syrah and Grenache give this Minervois Rosé both structure and fruit. Full of body and full of fruit, it is a perfect Rosé for an apéro and summer BBQ.

Minervois rouge

Our flagship wine is a blend of primarily Syrah, with a little Grenache and Cinsault. The wine is matured party on oak and partly in tank giving it a full body with great fruit, gentle soft tannins and a long fresh finish.

Minervois ‘Les Evangiles’

‘Les Evangiles’ is a small vineyard with old Syrah grape vines. It is the highest vineyards of the Domaine and has a great ‘terroir’ with deep soils of clay and limestone. The average yield is very small but also very concentrated (in 2007 we produced only 28 hectolitres to the hectare) and this provides the basis for a great wine. A long fermentation allows us to extract the full potential of the grapes after which the wine is matured in oak barrels from Burgundy ( 30% new, 40% one year old and 30% two year old barrels).

Although 90% of Chateau Canet’s 45 hectares of vineyards are classified as A.O.C. Minervois, we have chosen to expend our range with 3 great Vins de Pays, Chardonnay, Syrah Rosé and Syrah rouge:

Chardonnay Vin de Pays d’Oc

A terroir with a good mineral soil provides the base for our Chardonnay. Part of the wine is vinified and matured in new oak barrels and then blended with the part matured in stainless steel tanks. The end result is a Chardonnay that has the perfect balance of a mineral, fruity and oak aromas with a delightful fresh finish.

Syrah RosÉ Vin de Pays d’Oc

After the harvest the Syrah grapes are left in the press for a few hours before we start pressing. This grape maceration gives the juice its notable ‘rosé’ colour as well as its great fruity structure. Our Rose is a fresh summer wine with fruity aromas of raspberry and strawberry.

Syrah ROUGE Vin de Pays d’Oc

This 100% Syrah comes from the younger vineyards of the Domaine. We vinified this wine with the aim to extract maximum fruit and a full, yet soft structure. There is no oak contact and we bottle early to capture the black current and blackberry aromas under the cork.
